The following interview was conducted by McTwoPoint0. PMI does not endorse any of the opinions expressed in this interview.
A few days ago I sat down with BasilGaming, leader of the Ataraxy and about 5 other former nations that he'd probably like you to forget about. Do enjoy!
THIS INTERVIEW WAS CONDUCTED IN A DISJOINTED MANNER TO MAKE UP FOR TIMEZONE DIFFERENCES, WHICH IS WHY THERE ARE NO DIRECT RESPONSES TO ANSWERS.
ALL INFORMATION IS ACCURATE AS OF 20TH MARCH 2025
First question, what were your motivations with creating the Ataraxy?
BASILGAMING: I first inhabited the Mags base in 2023 in order to create a place of secondary residence, initially i just planned for it to be a base location, but after several construction projects were finished in quick succession, the area's infrastructure became more akin to that of a country, or town rather than just a dwelling, and so i slapped a banner and name on it, and The Ataraxy was born.
Second question, what are your plans for it, post war?
BASILGAMING: So as of right now several builds around The Ataraxy are still pretty badly damaged, more than half of the griefed builds were not rolled back, my first priority will be reconstructing damaged builds, improving infrastructure, and dismantling UCCR-Ataraxy relations, as in I will no longer cooperate whatsoever with Carrot, in fact, they will be viewed as an adversary. On top of that simplifying The Ataraxy's government is a priority, because right now its pretty much a bunch of contractual semantics stapled together.
The country has always essentially been a 'build showcase', and I see nothing wrong with that status, I hope to see it return to a prosperous state soon.
Third question, what do you think of Realmplex's political scene?
BASILGAMING: I think the idea of having "governments" rooted in bureaucracy and hierarchy create an illusion of power that is oppressive to players at its worst, and annoying at best. There's nothing wrong with giving your faction or town a flag and name- in fact id say thats one of the more intriguing aspects of the server, it supports freedom, creativity... ETC, but when that nation becomes a paper tiger of bureaucracy as opposed to a place where people can dwell and build, you start to get caught up in meaningless power images as opposed to the actual game itself. The best example of this was the Potato Empire, it controlled the vast majority of Realmplexia and assimilated nations under its reign because "we say so", what makes the Potato Empire's claims to wench as valid as anyone else's? And truth be told, when these claims of power are tested, they usually prove to be faulty, as was evident in the Third Great Realmplex War.
TLDR, Politics in the server can be fun and intriguing when done honestly, but when they become too bureaucratic and rooted in semantics they tend to wither.
Fourth question, what do you think of the RBU? Do you have any goals in mind for it?
BASILGAMING: I fundamentally support the idea of the RBU, its essentially a pillar of action holding up a server often rooted in inaction- the fact that Kaleidico has dedicated so much time to revamping old builds and improving the server's infrastructure in nations he didn't originally found is admirable, and in my mind proves that he is best qualified to be the RBU's chairman, so many times have we seen massive build plans grow stagnant, and I hope that the RBU will pull a full 180 and make a server-wide difference. In short, the RBU has my support, and respect going forward.
Fifth question, what are your plans for Thigh-Land?
BASILGAMING: I am SO glad you asked. We are in the process of desecrating historical sites in order to place down parking lots- one of my favorite past times. Me and Clam have been working on a 1:1 Holiday Inn replica, (and I do mean 1:1, even the interior) in fact, the building is so massive we'll need to level an entire forest and destroy the local ecosystem just to lay the first few cornerstones. I'm also proud to announce that Gay marriage has been re-legalized in northern Thigh land, the residents of the more conservative parts of the nation have yet to pass that bill (we're looking at you Taylorworld, hello). additionally, Kion has decided to build a male strip club and no-one knows how to feel about it. Furthermore, he's decided to hire people to work there. Take that as you will.
Sixth question, where do you think Realmplex will go now that the balance of power has been irrevocably shaken up on the server?
BASILGAMING: Hopefully in a more balanced direction. Though the Third Great Realmplex war was a success, I cant help but feel there are several other areas that are still controlled via illegitimated claims, this isn't even a matter of my personal political disposition, its a matter of these nations (wench... South Wheat kingdom, Westforge.. Ravine town) Being allowed to exist independently of bureaucratic systems. you cant even go to any of these nations and build a house without permission, or being indoctrinated into somebody else's empire anymore,
The truth is, We've already seen massive change brought on by residents of Quartzonia and SSI, ill be honest, i had little to no respect for Quartzonia until people started showing it attention, no more than 2 months ago it was just a house and a wall, now its a town that's more comparable to bird land in scale,
and that to me proves that everyday server members hold just as much potential as veterans or so-called kings. Even though the 3rd great Realmplex war was a success for server wide liberty, We still don't have a regionally diverse server, a lot more work is required to bring bring freedoms back to everyday server members as opposed to the bureaucratic systems that hold them back.
Seventh and final question, as an American, do you think that Elon Musk has, in fact, become meme?
BASILGAMING: We are all doomed.
