Results of the June 2024 Potato election

Writer: Jonas AlbertJonas Albert

Hello, and welcome to PMI's coverage of the June 2024 election in the Potato Empire. The results have been released, and we are ready to analyse them in detail.

This is the fifth election in the Potato Empire's history. Turnout was 12, the same as last time. This election comes just four months following the historic landslide victory for the UCP in February 2024. Have the UCP held on to their majority? Let's find out.

Potato Central

RoryRDMB, the leader of the UCP, has held on to the seat of Potato Central with 8 votes (originally 7), beating out Potato Democrats leader JVTA, and Action Party leader McTwoPoint0.

This is the third consecutive time that Rory has won the seat. They first won the seat in September 2023, amidst a shift towards the UCP nationwide.

Thailand

McTwoPoint0 of the Action Party has won the seat of Thailand in an upset victory, beating incumbent seat holder RoryRDMB of the UCP, and JVTA of the Potato Democrats. The margin of victory was one vote.

Thailand had previously been identified as the safest UCP seat in the country, owing to the UCP's three consecutive wins in the seat; Thailand shall no longer hold this distinction.

Allies

SpecShark of the Potato Democrats has won the Allied Seat, beating BasilGaming of the UCP and KingStella of the Action Party. SpecShark previously held this seat between January 2023 and February 2024, before losing it in the party's decimation last election.

Bird Land

FlyingSkyCarrot of the UCP, the incumbent Bird Land council member, has won the Bird Land election by default. He was the only candidate running for the seat.

Wench

SpecShark of the Potato Democrats has won the seat of Wench, defeating incumbent FlyingSkyCarrot of the UCP by one vote.

Final numbers

The final results are as follows. The United Crop Party will have two seats, down two. The Potato Democrats will have two seats as well, up by two. The Action Party will remain with one seat. As no party has won a majority, PMI has projected a hung parliament, with no clear party as the largest party.

The Potato Democrats have returned to the Council this election. Back in February, JVTA had said to PMI, "This is not the end for the Potato Democrats." Those words have proved to be rather prophetic, although JVTA themselves failed to win any seats. It is likely the party will switch around their candidates come next election.

The Action Party are now the kingmakers of this election. Both the UCP and PD will likely be keen to form a coalition with the Action Party. It is possible that the current coalition between the UCP and Action may continue. If such were to be the case, then Rory will likely continue to serve as prime minister. If a PD-Action coalition were to occur, then SpecShark may very well become Potato's fourth prime minister. Further information on coalitions will be confirmed soon.

There are no plans for a repeat election in Bird Land. The next election will likely take place no later than 5 October 2024. Until then, this is PMI, signing off.
