Hello, and welcome to PMI's coverage of the June 2024 election in the Potato Empire. The results have been released, and we are ready to analyse them in detail.

This is the sixth election in the Potato Empire's history. Turnout was 16, up by four from last election. UCP leader RoryRDMB is running for a fourth term as prime minister. Here are the results.

Potato Central

RoryRDMB, the leader of the UCP, has been re-elected in Potato Central in a landslide victory. Rory received nine votes, which became eleven in the rearrange. JVTA (PD) and McTwoPoint0 (Action) received three votes each; during the rearrange, McTwoPoint0 received one more vote.

This is the fourth time the UCP has won Potato Central, potentially cementing it as the party's safest seat. Due to the Potato Central vote being representative of all voters, it could also be speculated that the UCP has won the popular vote.

Thailand

Thailand's vote has ended in a draw. ToblroneNZ (UCP) and McTwoPoint0 (Action) both received two votes each. The Potato Democrats did not field a Thailand candidate this election.

Due to the tie, the Thailand seat will be re-contested. The details on registration will be confirmed by the Potato Empire Elections Board.

Allied Seat

SpecShark (PD) has held onto the Allies seat with three votes. In second was KingStella (Action), who received one vote. BasilGaming (UCP) received zero votes.

Wench

SpecShark (PD) has been reelected in Wench, with two votes. In second is FlyingSkyCarrot (UCP) with one vote.

Bird Land

FlyingSkyCarrot (UCP) has been reelected in Bird Land in what appears to be a mirror result to the Wench seat. FlyingSkyCarrot won two votes, while JVTA (PD) received one vote.

JVTA had run in this seat, hoping to win somewhere else after losing four times in a row in Thailand. It appears their gamble has not paid off.

Waste Town

cYRK64 (PD) is to become the first Council member for Waste Town (Te Whenua Moumou). He received one vote. His challenger, RoryRDMB (UCP) received zero votes.

Summary of results

The final results are as follows. The Potato Democrats have won 3 seats, up by one. The UCP have won 2 seats, the same as last election. The Action Party have not won a seat, down by one. At least one seat will be re-contested.

The Potato Democrats, despite the results of the Potato Central seat, have pulled off a surprise upset victory at this election, albeit one in which it's leader, JVTA, has failed to win a single seat. This result is the best for the party since its landslide victory in January of 2023, when it won all five contestable seats.

All eyes now turn to the Thailand re-vote, which all three parties are likely to contest. If the Potato Democrats win the seat, Potato would be in for the first change in government in months, with PD holding a majority in the Council. If the UCP wins the seat, the Council would be tied in terms of seat numbers. If Action wins, PD would remain the largest party, but just one short of a workable majority, making Action the potential kingmaker. The details of the repeat election will be confirmed in due time.

The next election is expected to be held on 5 March 2025, unless called prior. Until then, this is PMI, signing off.
