Jonasland is gearing up for a historic election - the first to be held under a new system.
This evening, president JVTA confirmed to the public that the next elections would be held on March 31st. These elections will be the first held since the passing of two major bills - the Election Reform Act of October 2023, and the Political and Electoral Reform Act of February 2024.
Under the new rules, the presidency - the head of state, and the parliament - the legislature, will be contested separately. Parties will have the option of whether they wish to run for either. Independent candidates will also be permitted to contest the election.
The new elections will be the first contested in 2024. Two parties are currently registered - the Social Democratic Party, led by JVTA, and the Jonasland Reformist Movement, led by TaylorWorld - with The Jonasland Tribune projecting the election to be "a rematch of June 2023" - the election in which the JRM, then newly-formed, won against the SDP after being added to the ballot two hours before the closure of voting.
Registration for the elections will close on March 25th, with voting opening two days later.
